Waste Prevention Techniques
There are few known prevention techniques in use today, and they are commonly known as the 4Rs; refuse, reuse, reduce, and recycle.
Refuse: Just point blank refuse plastic in general; plastic bags, cups, cutlery, straws. Do not buy food wrapped in plastic.
Reuse: Choose durable and non-toxic everyday utensils, containers and bottles, straws, and bags. There is so much alternative material such as bamboo, wood, glass, stainless steel, cardboard or paper, and more, that one can use instead of plastic
Reduce: By cutting down on plastic consumption, you significantly reduce your plastic footprint. Choose items that are not wrapped in plastic. Plastic takes hundreds of years to disappear.
Recycle: Most of us are familiar with recycling today. You should recycle anything that you could not reuse, refuse, or reduce. Follow the instructions on the package to make sure that the material is indeed recyclable. Whatever you do, avoid plastic trash and reduce your plastic footprint.
Reduction is the ideal solution
Ideally, waste reduction is the best option. Maybe one day in the future, we will be plastic free, in the meantime, we must do our very best to keep our footprint to a minimum. If and when waste is produced, it is our duty to reuse it when possible.
