Yard Waste Preparation Tips for Hauling
Once you finish mowing, cutting plants back, raking up leaves, and trimming your hedges, you need to prepare your yard waste for the pickup service guys. For this reason, we have put together a list of things to remember when preparing your yard waste for proper collection and disposal.
Branches and Tree Limbs
Gather tree-related waste first and do bundles. Tie together branches, tree limbs, and long sticks with twine. Bush and tree trimmings should not exceed four feet in length, no wider than a soccer ball, and branches must not exceed six inches in diameter. Plus, the bundle should not weigh more than thirty pounds. This is so our employees can safely collect the material and fit it into our trucks. Any type of biodegradable twine is good for bundling your trimmings.
Grass Clippings
Use plastic bags to collect grass clippings, excess thatch around your yard, small twigs, and small twigs.
Leaves
Rake the leaves into piles and then put them into leaf or yard-waste bags. Alternatively, you can use paper bags.
Logs
Make sure logs are under four inches in diameter. And keep in mind, tree stumps will not be collected.
Compost and Mulch
There are some items you can use to make organic compost. Branches, brush prunings, fallen leaves, grass clippings, and twigs can turn into valuable organic matter that will provide nutrients to your soil. Check out our blog about composting for more details.
You can also leave grass clipping on the lawn after mowing to ensure that nutrients like nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus will be returned to the soil.
